Its pluggable structure simplifies maintenance and management. A single 2U chassis provides 64 subscriber interfaces and supports more than 20 optional service types.

The IDM MAP64 integrated service access device is a 64-channel 64K cross-connect multiplexer developed by Beijing Ruiguang Jiyuan Digital Technology Co., Ltd. It performs non-blocking full cross-connect multiplexing of 64 channels of 64K services across 8 E1 channels. The device uses a 19-inch 2U standard chassis with a pluggable board structure; a single 2U frame provides 64 subscriber interfaces and supports more than 20 types of optional service cards, so an access node no longer needs multiple low-capacity multiplexers connected in cascade.

Key Specifications at a Glance: 8 E1 groups · 64-channel 64K cross-connect · 20+ service plug-in boards · dual power supply ≤150 W · 19-inch 2U chassis · pluggable service cards

The number of devices at an access node is determined jointly by the number of service interfaces and the number of E1 directions. In the past, 8 E1 directions and 64 voice channels often had to be split across multiple multiplexers for separate access. As an 8-group E1 integrated service access device, the IDM MAP64 packs 8 E1 interfaces, a 64K cross-connect matrix and 64 service interfaces into a single 2U chassis, with the frame, power supply and cabling centralized in one place, so the equipment room footprint and the number of items subject to O&M inspection are reduced accordingly. This time-slot cross-connect equipment from Raytrans is presented in the PCM product showcase for scenarios such as government private network optical fiber communication solutions and military emergency communications vehicle solutions, providing compact multiplexing and cross-connect capability for access nodes.

How the 64-Channel 64K Cross-Connect Multiplexer Achieves Non-Blocking Scheduling of 8 E1 Groups

Non-blocking full cross-connect means that any input 64K time slot can be connected to any output 64K time slot without connections competing for matrix resources. The IDM MAP64 integrated service multiplexer uses 64K non-blocking cross-connection as its basic mode of operation: cross-connection relationships are established at 64K time slot granularity, all service time slots of the 8 E1 groups participate in scheduling, and adding or adjusting a circuit requires only a change to the cross-connect configuration, leaving the time slots of existing services unaffected and the external cabling untouched. This time-slot cross-connect equipment performs centralized scheduling of PCM services at the access layer and, together with Raytrans networking solutions, adapts flexibly to different site forms.

Knowledge block: PCM30/32 frame structure and E1 interface standards. Each frame of the E1 base group is divided into 32 time slots: TS0 is used for frame alignment and alarms, TS16 for channel-associated signaling (CAS), and the remaining 30 time slots carry 64K services. The E1 bit rate is 2.048 Mbps, the line coding is HDB3, ITU-T G.703 is followed, and the impedance is 75 Ω/120 Ω.

According to the PCM30/32 time slot division, the 8 E1 groups provide a total of 240 64K time slots that can carry services. The 64 channels of 64K services occupy 64 of them, and the remaining time slots are reserved for later capacity expansion and temporary circuits. The 8 E1 groups can be organized in point-to-point, chain or star topologies; when the site distribution changes, the networking structure and cross-connect configuration are adjusted accordingly.

How to Configure 20+ Service Boards: Mixed Insertion of Telephone, Audio, Data and Ethernet

Service interfaces are provided by pluggable service cards, each offering 8 subscriber interfaces; fitting all 8 cards gives 64 channels, with service types selected card by card according to the site list. Capacity expansion only requires adding service cards, while the chassis and existing E1 directions remain unchanged, with no need to replace the whole unit.

  • FXO and FXS service cards carry automatic telephones, with an audio range of 300 Hz to 3400 Hz, A-law companding per ITU G.711, and a loop current of 20 mA per channel.

  • Magneto, common-battery and E&M 2/4-wire service cards are used for voice that does not rely on switch power feeding, with a balanced 600 Ω impedance and a return loss of no less than 18 dB.

  • V.24 service cards carry low-speed monitoring and telecontrol data, asynchronous ≤9600 bps and synchronous 64 Kbps, with electrical characteristics compliant with CCITT V.28.

  • V.35 service cards carry n×64 Kbps (n=0–31) synchronous data, with electrical characteristics compliant with ITU-T V.35 and a terminal interface compliant with ISO2593.

  • Codirectional 64K service cards provide a 64 Kbps data channel per G.703, with a balanced 120 Ω impedance.

  • Ethernet service cards come in FE and GE versions; FE bandwidth is N×VC12 (N≤50) and GE bandwidth is N×VC12 (N≤63), both supporting IEEE802.3 and full/half duplex/adaptive operation.

  • The transmit and receive gain of each voice channel can be adjusted from outside the service card panel, so call levels between different trunk lines at the same site can be aligned channel by channel.

Voice and data are mixed in the same chassis: services are first mapped uniformly to 64K time slots and then allocated by the cross-connect matrix to designated time slots of the 8 E1 groups. When a service type changes, only the corresponding service card is replaced, while the other cards and external lines remain untouched, so maintenance windows can be kept very tight. This mixed insertion capability at the product showcase level allows the integrated service access device to handle both voice and data access on the same platform.

Power supply, structure and network management: how to use AC220V/DC-48V dual power supply

The IDM MAP64 integrated service multiplexer supports two power supply modes, AC220V and DC-48V. It can be equipped with only one type of power card, or with both DC and AC dual power supply. Overall power consumption is ≤150W, so it can be powered directly from the -48V DC distribution panel in a substation or from the AC power supply in a communications equipment room. The same model covers both types of sites, keeping spare parts and O&M practices unified.

As a PCM multiplexer for the access layer, the IDM MAP64 uses a 19-inch 2U standard chassis, and its service cards, central management card and power cards are all pluggable and hot-swappable. The network management system provides serial port and Ethernet interfaces for unified management of all devices on the network; E1 tributary status and device alarms can be checked directly on the panel indicator LEDs, so fault location does not require opening the chassis. This integrated service access device from Raytrans can be incorporated into government private network optical fiber communication solutions and military emergency communications vehicle solutions, completing PCM service aggregation and dispatching at access nodes.

Differentiated value: one 2U unit replaces multiple multiplexers

The differentiated value of the IDM MAP64 integrated service multiplexer centers on three aspects: integration level, capacity expansion approach and power supply adaptation. The integration level determines how many devices are installed in a cabinet, the capacity expansion approach determines how long a service change takes, and power supply adaptation determines whether a site can use its existing power supply directly. The on-site benefits of these three aspects are listed in the table below for item-by-item comparison with the current equipment room conditions.

Differentiation Point

Customer Value

One unit replaces multiple units

8 groups of E1 aggregate 64 channels of 64K services with non-blocking full cross-connect; one 2U chassis handles access and time-slot scheduling in 8 directions, and the number of multiplexers and supporting power supplies in the cabinet decreases accordingly

More than 20 types of pluggable service boards

E1, Ethernet, audio and V.35 can be mixed as required; capacity expansion and service changes are completed by inserting or removing service cards, while existing lines and the chassis remain untouched

Dual power supply ≤150W: AC220V/DC-48V

AC and DC power supply options are available, with overall power consumption ≤150W; both the DC distribution panel in a substation and the AC power supply in a communications equipment room can power it directly, and spare parts are standardized

Typical Application Scenarios

The IDM MAP64 Integrated Service Multiplexer targets private network scenarios that use E1 as the transmission medium and require centralized access of telephony and data. The 8 groups of E1 can be organized into point-to-point, chain or star networks according to site distribution, and one unit handles 64K service access and scheduling for one access node. As an integrated service access device, its PCM time-slot cross-connect capability completes service scheduling at the access layer, and Raytrans has accumulated extensive private network deployment experience with this product series.

Electric Power Private Network: 8 Groups of E1 Enter the Station, Dispatch Telephone and Telecontrol Data Cross-Connect in the Same Unit

Between substations and dispatch centers in an electric power private network, both dispatch telephone and low-speed data for telecontrol, metering and monitoring are carried. The IDM MAP64 Integrated Service Multiplexer aggregates the 8 groups of E1 entering the station and cross-connects voice channels and data to their respective channels at the 64K time-slot level, so that one E1 carries voice and data simultaneously and the number of incoming lines decreases accordingly. This time-slot cross-connect equipment organizes services in PCM mode, and its compact 2U chassis structure is shown in the product showcase.

When a new bay is added or service assignment is adjusted, only the cross-connect configuration and service card positions are changed, while external wiring remains untouched. The device supports AC220V/DC-48V dual power supply, and the DC distribution panel in the station can supply power directly; the inspection frequency at unattended sites drops as the number of devices decreases.

Rail Transit: 64 Voice Channels Between Stations with Cards Configured as Required, Saving Space in Cabinets Along the Line

Sites along a rail transit line are distributed, and inter-station liaison telephone, PA and control data need unified aggregation at the central side. The IDM MAP64 Integrated Service Multiplexer carries inter-station voice and data over 64 channels of 64K service interfaces, and service cards are configured according to the actual number of interfaces at each station, so there is no need to deploy separate transmission devices for each service type.

The 19-inch 2U chassis can be installed in cabinets along the line, and the pluggable structure means capacity expansion only requires adding service cards. The central side checks the E1 and service card status of each station through the network management system, so fault handling no longer requires traveling to each site, and maintenance personnel can spend more time on preventive inspection.

Military and Government Private Networks: Dual Power Supply ≤150W, Rapid Commissioning at Field and Vehicle-Mounted Sites

Power supply conditions at sites of military and government private networks vary with the site: indoor equipment rooms have AC power, while vehicle-mounted and field sites mostly use DC power. The IDM MAP64 Integrated Service Multiplexer supports AC220V/DC-48V dual power supply with overall power consumption ≤150W, can be installed in a standard cabinet or vehicle-mounted rack, and operates at an operating temperature of -10℃~+50℃. In government private network optical fiber communication solutions, the device can serve as the PCM multiplexing and cross-connection scheduling unit of an access node; for military emergency communications vehicle solutions, its compact 2U chassis and DC power supply capability suit the rapid commissioning requirements of vehicle-mounted deployment, and the multi-scenario deployment cases in the Raytrans product showcase can be used for reference.

Field sites can stay online over the long term with -48V DC power supply, and service adjustments are delivered as cross-connect configurations from the central side, so no on-site rewiring is required. With 8 groups of E1 and 64 channels of services concentrated in one 2U device, the hoisting and wiring workload during mobile deployment decreases with the number of devices.
