Hazards of Transient Interference on Optical Terminals and Countermeasures
Generation of transient interference on optical terminals: Transient interference is generated by the switching of large inductive loads, such as motors, transformers, relays, and during lightning events. It often invades optical terminals through electrostatic induction.

Hazards of transient interference on optical terminals: Due to its high interference frequency, short duration, and large amplitude (hundreds to thousands of volts), it can burn out key components of the optical terminal such as the RS-485 interface chip and the main chip, leaving no trace. Especially during the summer thunderstorm season, this destructive effect is significant, causing great concern for users, distributors, and manufacturers.
Countermeasures: Although optical terminal manufacturers have adopted various protection methods, such as bypass methods (self-recovery diodes), absorption methods (bidirectional suppression diodes, etc.), and isolation methods (opto-coupler isolation), they still cannot completely eliminate the damage caused by transient interference. RS-485 interface failures occur frequently, placing great pressure on both users and manufacturers.
