MSAP Builds a Converged Access Network

The rapid changes in customer service and bandwidth demands have posed new challenges to operators' existing networks, especially the local access network layer, which involves the largest investment and the most complex applications, and is currently facing several major challenges: how to adapt to the rapid development of IP data services, how to adapt to the requirements of integrated service access and aggregation, how to adapt to providing differentiated services to customers, and how to ensure higher network scalability at lower cost. Meanwhile, traditional access devices and networking solutions such as PDH, media converters, and protocol converters have increasingly prominent problems of single technology, insufficient network adaptability, high O&M costs, and incomplete management functions, and can no longer adapt to the new changes. Therefore, the construction and development of the local network have put forward new requirements for access layer equipment and solutions: 1. Provide more flexible and richer service access methods to meet the needs of various customer segments; 2. Provide stronger scalability, adapting to the trend of network IP-based development in terms of bandwidth, functionality, reliability, and other aspects, and extending the effective investment period of equipment; 3. Build more reliable access networks to provide users with high-quality communication services; 4. Provide unified and effective network management, improve network operation service levels, and reduce operating costs; 5. Lower network construction costs and faster deployment capabilities. Through consideration of the above issues, Raytrans, as a mainstream manufacturer of access equipment, has proposed the concept of building a converged access network through a multi-service access platform — namely, using the [MSAP]( Access Platform) series products and an integrated network management platform to achieve four types of convergence: Service convergence: While meeting the access needs of users for voice, video, industry applications, OA, Internet, and other services, it can also provide channels for the growing 3G services, helping to achieve rapid deployment of 3G networks; Technology convergence: MSAP provides multiple access technologies such as PCM, PDH, SDH, Ethernet, DSL, and CWDM, offering multi-level service processing capabilities of N*64K, N*2M, 155M/622M, and FE/GE, and providing users with integrated access methods through different service modules, thereby building an elastic access network oriented to full services and further realizing unified management of the local network access layer. Network convergence: While implementing TDM service processing, it also provides an IP processing platform, which can adapt to the trend of network IP-based development, equivalent to providing two access networks — TDM and Ethernet/IP — on a unified access platform, realizing the convergence of access networks. These two access networks can be independent of each other, and can also realize inter-network service switching according to application needs, fully ensuring that the access network has a high degree of flexibility. Management convergence: It organically integrates network element management with key customer resource management, expanding and enhancing the scope and capability of network management. Network element-based management refers to the ability to manage and control equipment from different vendors through the NMS system, realizing comprehensive management of the access network, network fault analysis and fault location, and comprehensive network performance analysis. Customer-based management refers to using the customer as the basic management element, providing functions such as the customer's circuits, equipment resources, customer information, and alarm statistics, and customizing network management information for that customer, thereby providing operators with a more intuitive and efficient key customer management tool.
