Li Yue: China Mobile to Provide RMB 2 Billion in Special Subsidies for IoT Infrastructure Construction

At the main forum of the 2017 China Mobile Global Partners Conference held today, China Mobile President Li Yue stated that there are at least four key aspects to the development of the Internet of Things. The first is openness. The network must be opened to the whole society, and the platform must be opened to the entire industry. We understand that an open network is like the meridians of the human body. According to traditional Chinese medicine, if the meridians are unobstructed, there is no pain; if there is pain, the meridians are blocked. Therefore, an open and unobstructed network is the foundation for the development of the Internet of Things.

The second is service. The "things" in the Internet of Things are inanimate; once connected, inanimate objects become living entities. If a company's product is viewed in itself, it is inanimate, but once connected, the product becomes a service. Therefore, if a company wants to transform from a production-oriented to a production-service-oriented enterprise, the Internet of Things is an important driving force.

The third is intelligence. With tens of billions of connections in the Internet of Things, traditional systems cannot realize their value. It is only through big data and artificial intelligence that the Internet of Things can demonstrate its immense value.

The fourth is security. The security architecture of the Internet of Things is even more important than that of the Internet. Therefore, we must provide the whole society with a secure, reliable, convenient, and high-quality IoT system.

To this end, China Mobile has launched the "3+1" open capability platform, which has achieved remarkable results after a year of development.

In terms of opening communication capabilities, the number of capability projects has reached 70, serving more than 120,000 enterprises. In terms of IoT openness, the number of IoT devices connected to our OneNET platform exceeds 30,000, with more than 20,000 applications. In terms of home broadband openness, smart gateway users have exceeded 30 million, and 11 enterprises with 110 products have achieved interoperability. In other words, home gateways can now interconnect and interact with refrigerators, TVs, and washing machines.

Among these, the most significant platform is the unified authentication platform. Since its opening a year ago, this platform has achieved breakthrough progress, with more than 1,000 cooperative applications入驻 the platform and an average of over 50 million daily active user activations.

The unified authentication platform is a new authentication system based on China Mobile phone numbers. It eliminates the hassle of requiring usernames and passwords for APP registration. As long as a customer downloads the APP, China Mobile can assist with authentication. Your mobile number remains unchanged, your APP does not require a username or password, and when you switch to a new phone, the APP authentication is simultaneously transferred to the new phone or terminal. With this service, the activation rate of enterprise APPs has increased exponentially. Since the launch of this service, there have been over 400 million APP authentications per day based on phone numbers. To facilitate understanding for partners and customers, we have renamed unified authentication to mobile authentication. With your mobile number unchanged and the authentication system unchanged, supported by the nationwide real-name registration system, our authentication is the most convenient, fastest, and most secure authentication system.

In promoting the development of the industrial Internet, China Mobile has opened its IoT technology and IoT platform to these industrial enterprises, enabling them to reduce manufacturing costs by 8% and increase manufacturing efficiency by 15%.

Next year, China Mobile will allocate RMB 2 billion in special subsidies to promote the construction of various IoT infrastructures and lower the threshold and cost for various industries to adopt IoT technology. This will bring together more innovators and drive entrepreneurs and partner enterprises.
