China to Develop Multiple Triple Play Standards
Reporters learned from the 9th Member Conference of the China Communications Standards Association that China will develop multiple Triple Play standards this year.
According to the introduction, these Triple Play standards cover content management, core network, broadband access, transport network and IP (Internet Protocol) bearer network, service platform and services, terminal security, and other aspects. They will jointly improve China's Triple Play standards system and provide support services for Triple Play trials and large-scale development.
Content Management: Develop unified metadata and content management standards, continue to complete the DRM (Digital Rights Management) series of industry standards, improve audio source coding standards, and actively participate in international standards.
Core Network: Conduct research on Triple Play network architecture and key technologies, and analyze the impact of Triple Play services in the NGB (Next Generation Broadcasting Network) plan on mobile communication technologies.
Broadband Access: Current broadband access technologies can support the rollout of Triple Play trials. Due to the lack of Cable access standards, active efforts will be made to develop Cable access standards.
Transport Network and IP Bearer Network: Existing optical transport and IP bearer network standards are relatively complete, with the focus on further analyzing new standardization requirements in combination with broadcasting industry applications.
Service Platform and Services: Strengthen research on triple-screen convergence services and communication services, improve open interface standards for IPTV (Interactive Network Television) and mobile multimedia broadcasting value-added services, and enhance research on content distribution and storage, intelligent content navigation, and cloud computing capabilities. Meanwhile, jointly with the broadcasting industry, develop IPTV and mobile multimedia broadcasting content distribution and composition standards that meet trial requirements, as well as standards for interfacing with transmission and distribution networks, and analyze interoperability requirements and standard applications for Triple Play services.
Terminals: Address terminal service functions required by multiple networks such as voice, video, data, and broadcasting; terminal presentation capabilities required for HD and 3D (three-dimensional) content transmission; terminal human-machine interaction capabilities required for interactive services; and terminal capabilities required for various converged new applications. Strengthen research on key technologies for Triple Play terminal display, interaction, software, and hardware, develop standards for new converged terminal equipment and interfaces, improve standards for IPTV set-top boxes and mobile multimedia broadcasting terminals, and research and develop standards for devices such as IPTV integrated TVs and Internet TVs.
Security: Improve standards such as the IPTV security framework and set-top box content security around the prominent security issues of Triple Play, conduct research on security technologies such as content identification and authentication traceability, and develop content broadcast control security standards.
