MIIT: Triple Play Achieves Four Major Breakthroughs

At the briefing on the operation of the national industry and communications sector for the first quarter of 2011 held on April 20, 2011, Zhang Feng, Director of the Communications Development Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), pointed out that the MIIT, the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, and relevant departments have actively promoted the pilot work of "Triple Play" and achieved four major breakthroughs. First, all pilot provinces and cities organized and formulated implementation plans for the pilot program. Second, enterprises accelerated the construction of broadband networks and the fiber-to-the-home project, while completing the renovation and construction of support platforms for IPTV and mobile TV services. Third, supervision over network information security and cultural security was strengthened. Fourth, enterprises innovated in industrial forms and market promotion models, driving the development of Triple Play-related services such as IPTV, mobile TV, and online video.
