The predecessor of China Telecom IoT Branch was the China Telecom IoT Application and Promotion Center and the China Telecom IoT Technology Key Laboratory, established in November 2009, and it was operated as one of China Telecom's eight major product bases. Since its establishment, the base has supported, developed, and promoted more than 200 key projects nationwide, covering fields such as smart agriculture, smart water conservancy, energy and environmental protection, and has preliminarily built China Telecom's core IoT service capabilities. Based on its own development characteristics, the base has also focused on industries such as intelligent transportation, smart finance, and smart metering, relying on China Telecom's IoT terminal management M2M platform and the TAP platform for vehicle informatization applications, to build core competitiveness in key IoT industries. Over the years, the base has actively conducted extensive cooperation with upstream and downstream enterprises in the industrial chain, promoted the standardization and generalization of IoT modules and terminals, and enhanced the core value of the IoT terminal industry chain.
The newly established IoT Branch will be dedicated to developing IoT channel-based services based on the IoT private network and dedicated IoT numbers, IoT platform services centered on the M2M platform and TAP platform, as well as the development and promotion of IoT application-based services. It will also coordinate and promote China Telecom's IoT terminal industry chain to create a healthy IoT industry ecosystem.
