Chengdu Plans Fiber Access for 1.5 Million Households Within the Year

Promoting 412 Projects Each Worth Over 100 Million Yuan

This year, Chengdu will advance 412 major projects each with an investment of over 100 million yuan, ensuring an investment of over 60 billion yuan, starting construction on 120 projects, and completing and putting into operation 156 projects. The Tianfu New Area, whose construction began at the end of last year, will provide enormous development space for Chengdu's industrial development.

This year, the Municipal Economic and Information Technology Commission will accelerate the construction of optical network cities, wireless cities, "Triple Play" pilot projects, and large internet data centers, promoting the deep integration of industrialization and informatization.

The problem of insufficient broadband bandwidth has long plagued residents' internet access. This year, Chengdu will implement a broadband speed-up project, expanding and upgrading the metropolitan area network to solve the "last mile" problem of "fiber to the home," building a "information highway" with full coverage, ensuring the addition of 1.5 million new residential fiber access capabilities within the year, and generally upgrading home fiber user bandwidth to above 8M.

In terms of wireless city construction, Chengdu will launch a citywide WiFi coverage action plan, build a mobile internet integrated service platform, ensure 3G network coverage of 100% in urban areas, over 90% in suburban areas, and over 80% in remote hilly and mountainous areas, and complete the construction of 1,500 smart information kiosks.

This year, Chengdu was officially designated as a second-batch pilot city for "Triple Play." It will support radio and television enterprises in carrying out pilot services such as digitalization of cable television networks, internet access, and IP telephony, and encourage telecommunications enterprises to develop converged services such as IPTV and mobile TV.
