Morning news on January 18, according to the latest statistics from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the three-year development plan for 3G has been basically completed, with 3G users reaching 128 million and the total number of 3G base stations reaching 814,000.

On January 7, 2009, the MIIT issued three 3G licenses to the three major telecom operators, and three years have passed since then.

According to MIIT statistics, by the end of 2011, China's 3G users had reached 128 million, of which TD users accounted for 51.21 million, approximately 40% of all 3G users; China Telecom and China Unicom had 37.19 million and 40.02 million 3G users, respectively.

In terms of base station construction, the total number of 3G base stations reached 814,000, with TD base stations reaching 220,000, and China Telecom and China Unicom having 269,500 and 324,500 3G base stations, respectively. Cumulative 3G investment reached 455.6 billion yuan.

The MIIT stated that since the issuance of three 3G operating licenses in January 2009, China's 3G development has gone through three years. The 3G network investment and base station scale have exceeded the enterprises' three-year planning targets, and the 3G user development target has been basically completed.
