China Telecom Launches 2014 PON Equipment Centralized Procurement: 10G EPON Significantly Reduced
Morning news on April 8 (Nanshan) China Telecom recently launched its 2014 centralized procurement project for PON equipment. The procurement scope includes three types of bidding packages: EPON equipment, GPON equipment, and 10G EPON equipment. As can be seen from the tendered products, EPON equipment still holds a dominant position, while the procurement volume of 10G PON has significantly shrunk.
Specifically, the estimated procurement quantity for the EPON equipment package is 150,000 newly built OLT ports and 970,000 broadband/narrowband ports for ONU (including MDU/MTU/SBU); the estimated procurement quantity for the GPON equipment package is 170,000 newly built OLT ports and 550,000 broadband/narrowband ports for ONU (including MDU/SBU); the estimated procurement quantity for the 10G EPON equipment package is 10,000 newly built OLT ports and 60,000 broadband/narrowband ports for ONU (including MDU/MTU).
Compared with 2013, the overall scale of this procurement has declined, with the decrease in 10G EPON being particularly notable. In 2013, the GPON procurement included over 400,000 newly built OLT ports and nearly 900,000 lines of MDU broadband/narrowband ports; for the first-time 10G EPON procurement, China Telecom purchased 40,000 OLT ports and 700,000 lines of MDU.
