High-Speed Network Dedicated to 2008 Beijing Olympics Under Construction
China Netcom and the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games stated today that communication services for releasing competition information at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games will rely on broadband, and a complete set of dedicated high-speed integrated networks is now under construction.
Zhao Jidong, Senior Vice President of China Netcom, said today that the Beijing Olympic Games will be the first in Olympic history to produce all television public signals in high-definition format. All broadcast and television public signals from competition venues will be transmitted through China Netcom's optical cable transmission network to the International Broadcast Center, and from there sent to more than 200 countries.
China Netcom has also specially designed and launched a plug-in broadband access service for media from various countries. Based on the needs of major global news agencies and media photographers, China Netcom can provide instant image transmission services, ensuring that print media can transmit the exciting moments captured at the venues to the outside world in the fastest time. China Netcom has also prepared 16 digital satellite news gathering vehicles, each capable of providing up to 45 Mbps of uplink bandwidth.
According to hotel requirements, China Netcom has developed high-quality communication products, providing personalized communication services based on multiple applications, including voice, broadband access, plug-and-play, multimedia information service terminals, and video conferencing.
China Netcom has also built a secure, stable, reliable, and advanced full-mesh intelligent optical network, providing dedicated channels for the transmission of Games management information and competition information between venues.
China Netcom and the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games today launched the "China Netcom Broadband Olympic China Tour" themed event, which will reach out to communities, townships, campuses, and cities at different levels of society to promote and publicize the Olympic spirit.
