Beijing Raytrans Campus Network Business Requirements and Solutions
I. Campus Communication Network Requirements
Communication service requirements within a campus are broadly divided into the office OA system interconnected with the Internet, i.e., the campus Internet, the independently operated security system network, and the multi-school networked bell/ring and examination systems with high security levels.
In today's era where cybercrime is difficult to prevent, governments and enterprises transmit security-related communications over private networks. Many industries in China have their own industry private networks, such as electric power, petroleum, public security, customs, and inspection and quarantine.
The education private network, primarily region-based, is also being gradually planned, starting with campus construction and ultimately connecting schools via fiber optic by the education commission.
The campus Internet is connected to the Internet network through devices such as routers, firewalls, Internet behavior managers, and authentication servers. Due to varying firewall security levels and the need for daily professional maintenance, some regional education commissions connect local primary and secondary schools together for unified Internet access, providing unified support in terms of firewall equipment and technical manpower.
The security network is an internal network independent of the campus Internet, which can externally connect to public security surveillance networks, etc. It mainly includes traditional items such as surveillance cameras, perimeter protection, surveillance display walls, and video recording servers. Where conditions permit, it also includes parking lot management, patrol management, access control management, campus guidance display management, etc. More advanced systems also include emergency converged communication systems that integrate wireless trunking radios, fixed telephones, mobile phones, public address broadcasting, as well as various GPS locations and image information, enabling pre-planned handling of various emergencies and rapid response.
The campus remote examination network is a network with the highest security level. It can synchronize various examinations initiated by the education commission and schools, and is a closed internal network system. It mainly includes the campus broadcast bell system (which can also play music such as radio calisthenics during normal times), examination room audio/video playback system, examination room surveillance system, etc. It can share cameras with the daily teaching recording system, but physical interface switching must be performed to ensure the two networks are not interconnected.

II. Campus Internet Network
The campus Internet network can fully utilize various information resources on the Internet, the national information network, the education network, and the national university Internet to achieve resource sharing. It can provide students studying on this campus with rich multimedia teaching methods and achieve high-quality and efficient teaching goals.
The network should implement the following functions:
Internet access
Virtual network access
Campus website establishment
Distance education
VOD on demand
Network security management
Email and electronic bulletin boards
Computer-assisted instruction
Teacher lesson preparation functions
External communication
Campus management platform
Information resource library
WIFI coverage in key campus areas
III. Campus Security System
In the security system, since school cameras are installed in batches and may come from multiple brands, a hardware platform that integrates and manages hardware from multiple manufacturers should be selected.
The network structure covers three entities: the supervisory authority, the public security department, and the school.
In terms of performance, it should achieve HD surveillance integrated with access control, boundary alarms, broadcasting, patrol systems, etc., enabling multi-party linkage. It should also integrate multiple communication terminals to ensure smooth command and timely handling.
Tests have proven that after a person stares at a surveillance screen for 22 minutes, they become blind to 95% of the area on the screen. Therefore, image processing software combined with other technical means should be used for alarm detection.
The main functions of the security system include:
Image integration and storage functions; integrating different manufacturers and different technologies.
Real-time surveillance functions;
Data transmission functions; including voice, data, and image transmission.
Management functions for various terminals; timely understanding of terminal working status.
Electronic map display.
Alarm linkage; combined with various technical means.
Patrol management;
Emergency plans and command & dispatch.
IV. Campus Remote Examination Network
A school is a place of continuous learning and examination, not only for daily tests and quizzes of enrolled students, but also as a venue for various national professional examinations. With the advancement of network technology, remote online examinations will become increasingly common, and therefore examination room construction is receiving growing attention.
Due to the fair and reasonable distribution of multi-party interests, the remote examination room management system is a system with a very high level of confidentiality and cannot be interconnected with the Internet. Fairness and reasonableness must be maintained.
Including:
Network unified clock system, ensuring unified network time synchronization;
Unified bell system, ensuring unified examination time for candidates within the examination area.
Examination room audio surveillance system, ensuring clear voice in examination rooms.
Examination room audio/video playback system, ensuring unified audio/video playback throughout the examination area.
Recording and playback of examination room surveillance audio/video, ensuring the fairness of examination room discipline.
Examination room identity recognition system, ensuring the legitimate identity of candidates, invigilators, and on-site staff.
V. Campus Fiber Optic Communication Network Planning
- For the campus Internet, since schools are locations with highly concentrated information points, it is best to use Ethernet switches with optical transmission interfaces of various specifications, such as 4 electrical ports + 1 optical port, 8 electrical ports + 1 optical port, or switches with multiple optical ports for easy cascading. Since fiber optic is cheaper and smaller than copper cable, fiber optic access to the user desktop should be used as much as possible to save on twisted pair cable length.
At the central access end, use all-fiber-interface Ethernet switches, then uniformly connect to the core switch.
Use redundant dual-network backup from the core switch to important nodes.
Raytrans provides all-fiber Ethernet switches for the central end and intermediate nodes, and provides gigabit fiber access switches with and without PoE functionality, as well as 100M fiber access Ethernet switches at the remote end.
Among them, gigabit optical port Ethernet switches have 2 or 3 optical ports and can form chain networks and tree networks.
The IDM POE-M08plus product features 3 SFP gigabit optical ports and 8 100M electrical ports, and also offers optional 4-port (RS232 or RS485) serial server or 2-channel IP voice telephone modules.

- For the campus security network, the most critical requirement is to ensure the security of the fiber optic communication network itself. With the increased bandwidth demands of HD surveillance, equipment with 2.5G fiber bandwidth, 2 physically isolated gigabit Ethernet ports, and ring network capability is selected. The central end of this equipment can be configured with the emergency command & dispatch device IDM M3000, which can integrate wireless trunking communication, fixed telephones, and perimeter protection data access (the dispatch card does not need to be inserted when dispatch functionality is not required).
The IDM M3000 is a 19-inch 2U dispatch switch.
The IDM M3000 provides access to a set of 2.5G fiber ring network equipment (IDM GTD442) through the IDM 120N-GP optical card. This equipment provides 2 groups of physically isolated gigabit Ethernet ports and 4 telephone channels, and can also accommodate serial server cards to connect various surveillance devices. Many HD cameras can be connected to the gigabit ring network.
It can provide switching and dispatch for 90 telephone channels, with 10 channels per card;
It can also provide communication with wireless trunking radios, with each card providing 4 trunking interfaces, such as security trunking and logistics maintenance trunking.
It can also provide 100M optical port access for remote Ethernet and telephone, i.e., providing chain network access for IDM NTD421 through the 3U-MPconv card, with 4 optical ports per card.

The above system can also add boundary alarms, access control, and other information.
Of course, this network can also be implemented using fiber optic Ethernet switches, but in that case, IP telephone gateways and radio gateways would need to be introduced.
- For the remote bell system and examination network
Mainly including:
Campus broadcast bell system (which can also play music such as radio calisthenics during normal times);
Examination room audio/video playback system;
Examination room surveillance system;
Video conference system, which can also be used for remote interactive education;
Cameras are installed at both the front and back of classrooms. When sharing cameras for different systems, physical interface switching must be performed to ensure the two networks are not interconnected. The cameras in classrooms can be shared with the security system.

VI. Integrated Services Fiber Optic Transmission System
The above three systems are built independently. When fiber optic is leased between the main campus and branch campuses, full utilization of the fiber optic must be considered. Even within the same campus, when 2 different networks exist in the same classroom, different equipment can cause installation and maintenance difficulties.
Raytrans provides equipment that offers multiple physically isolated Ethernet networks on the same fiber core, equivalent to multiple media converters or switches. This simplifies communication connections to classrooms and offices.
In particular, for remote communication with the higher-level education commission and lower-level branch campuses, leased fiber resources can be fully utilized to implement multiple functions.
