Voice Gateway Overview
A voice gateway is similar to an ordinary computer switch. Currently, voice gateways incorporate the functions of both routers and switches. The switch distributes network resources to multiple computers, while the router is used to connect telephones. It can connect telephones, fax machines, or PBX in your home or office to Internet access devices, thereby connecting the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) with the IP network to enable voice calls over the Internet. No dedicated handsets are required; ordinary telephones and fax machines can be connected to the gateway for use.
A voice gateway enables point-to-point free communication, and new-generation voice gateways possess all the functions of a PBX. Voice communications can be fully integrated into the company's data network, establishing a unified voice and data network that connects offices and employees located around the world. In other words, it acts as a voice switch, converting voice signals into analog signals.
