VSAT Communication
VSAT communication is a type of satellite communication. VSAT is the abbreviation for Very Small Aperture Terminal, referring to satellite communication earth stations with antenna apertures typically ranging from 1.2 meters to 2.8 meters. It was developed in the early 1980s as a satellite communication terminal device and has seen extensive development in recent years.
VSAT Communication System Frequency Bands
VSAT communication systems generally operate in two frequency bands: the Ku band at 14 GHz (uplink)/11 GHz (downlink) and the C band at 6 GHz (uplink)/4 GHz (downlink). The C band was developed earlier and has lower rain attenuation, but space resources are relatively congested, and antenna apertures and terminal equipment sizes are larger. Since Ku band space resources are currently more abundant, antenna apertures are smaller, and installation is easier, Ku band VSAT systems are developing faster than C band VSAT systems. The Usat ultra-small aperture terminal, known as a rising star in VSAT, which refers to satellite communication earth stations with antenna apertures of 0.3 meters to 0.5 meters, operates in the Ku band.
VSAT Communication Has Also Achieved Good Development in China
With the deepening of China's reform and opening-up, VSAT communication has also achieved good development in China. China Telecom entered the VSAT communication business early on. From 1995 to 1998, during the period of rapid development of China's paging industry, paging operators widely adopted VSAT communication to expand coverage and achieve nationwide networking. During this period, almost all paging stations adopted VSAT communication, creating a small boom in the VSAT communication market.
Currently, China's financial and banking, petroleum, earthquake, civil defense, civil aviation, meteorological, news, press, and military sectors have all established their own VSAT communication networks. These have formed the market for VSAT industry applications.
With the demand for broadband in communications, the Internet, and multimedia, the transition from single TV broadcast reception to integrated multimedia reception covering TV broadcasting, distance education, telemedicine, rural telephony, satellite Internet access, and video broadcasting will all provide channels and opportunities for the development of VSAT communication.
