Yesterday, seven national ministries jointly released the "Opinions on Promoting Fiber Broadband Network Construction." The Opinions require that over the next three years, nationwide investment in fiber broadband network construction exceeds 150 billion yuan, with over 50 million new broadband subscribers.

Reporters learned yesterday from China Telecom Sichuan, China Unicom Sichuan, and China Mobile Sichuan that the combined investment of the three operators in fiber broadband network construction over the next three years will approach 10 billion yuan. With fiber-to-the-home, a series of broadband-based applications including HD TV and Internet TV will enter households at a faster pace.

Mao Qian, Director of the Asia-Pacific Optical Communications Committee and Director of the Optical Communications Committee of the China Institute of Communications, stated, "The introduction of this national policy is conducive to the national medium- and long-term science and technology development plan and the electronic information industry revitalization plan, and is also one of the important prerequisites for triple play and the integration of informatization and industrialization."

A representative from China Telecom Sichuan told reporters yesterday that over the next three years, China Telecom Sichuan will invest approximately 8.3 billion yuan in areas including fiber broadband and base station construction, with fiber broadband construction accounting for the majority. Meanwhile, this year, China Telecom Sichuan will enable 95% of urban areas to provide bandwidth capabilities of 4M or above, and achieve full coverage of townships.
