Wuhan's Optical Fiber and Cable Output Value Accounted for 55% of Domestic Share in 2011
According to Wuhan science and technology authorities, last year the city's high-tech output value exceeded the 300 billion yuan mark for the first time, expected to reach 320 billion yuan, firmly holding the top position among provincial capital cities in central China.
For the first 100 billion yuan threshold of high-tech output value, Wuhan strived for 5 years from 2001 to 2006; for the second 100 billion yuan threshold, Wuhan took 3 years, achieving 205.499 billion yuan in high-tech output value by 2009; and it took only two years for Wuhan to move toward 300 billion yuan in high-tech output value.
According to reports, the "accelerated" leap of Wuhan's high-tech industry is mainly attributed to the scale effects formed by the city's three leading high-tech industries: electronic information, new materials, and advanced manufacturing, with more and more enterprises clustering for development. In the electronic information field, represented by optical fiber and cable, optical communications, etc., it occupies 55% of the domestic market share and 15% of the international market share. In advanced manufacturing, Wuhan has become one of China's important bases for automobile manufacturing and ship supporting, with laser research and manufacturing technology reaching internationally first-class levels. Currently, the three leading industries account for more than 80% of the city's high-tech output value.
Wuhan has proposed that by 2015, the city's high-tech industry output value should strive to reach 750 billion yuan, accounting for more than 50% of the total industrial output value, with the overall level leaping to the forefront of the country.
