How Is 64K Time-Slot Cross-Connection Implemented Under the PCM30/32 Frame Structure?

PCM30/32 is the common frame format of the E1 base group. Each frame contains 32 time slots, of which 30 carry voice or data services, TS0 is used for frame alignment and alarms, and TS16 is used for channel-associated signaling (CAS). Voice signals are A-law companded in accordance with ITU-T G.711 and placed into the corresponding time slots at 64 kbit/s, so the 64K time slot becomes the smallest unit of cross-connection scheduling. The IDM DXC5200 performs cross-connections at 64K granularity: a service time slot in any E1 can be cross-connected to a designated time slot of another E1, and service time slots for audio, V.35 and RS232 services are also incorporated into the same scheduling matrix, which is non-blocking, so service adjustments are never blocked by internal resource conflicts.
