When multiple Ethernet networks share a single switching channel, the bandwidth is shared and Layer 2 traffic is interconnected, making it difficult to carry two networks that require mutual isolation. The IDM-VNT2204 multi-service video optical terminal allocates an independent 100M line-speed bandwidth to each of the two Ethernet ports on the fiber channel, with each port providing 2 physical interfaces. The two ports do not share bandwidth or exchange data, so they can directly transmit two 100M Ethernet networks requiring physical isolation, such as an office network and a video private network, or an internal network and an external business network. The total Ethernet bandwidth of the device on a pair of fibers is 200M, with the two Ethernet ports transmitting in parallel with video, voice, and data channels without competing for bandwidth.
